Episode #6: Superman: The Year In Review!

Download Episode 6!

In this episode, I want to take the time to share my enthusiasm about current superman storylines in the various Superman titles. Two monthly Superman titles that are no longer on my pull list are SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL and SUPERMAN / BATMAN. I've had to drop these to add other titles to my reading list and stay on my budget. My favorite Superman titles, in reverse order are:
3. SUPERMAN
2. ACTION COMICS
1. ALL-STAR SUPERMAN.

Another sad anniversary in comics occurred this week. Jack Kirby passed away on February 6, 1994, at his home in Thousand Oaks, California. In this episode I will share a brief history of some of his work for DC Comics over the decades, and feature his work during the 1970's. During this time he created the Fourth World mythology for DC. Other than co-starring Superman in the first issue of his title FOREVER PEOPLE, Kirby's main work was on Superman was on the title SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN, from issues 133-148.

This week is a sad anniversary in Superman history. The writer and co-creator of Superman, Jerry Siegel, died on January 28, 1996, at the age of 81, in his California home. After sharing a brief update on my son's leaving for Marine Corps boot camp, I feature Siegel and Shuster's pre-Superman creations for the companies that would become DC Comics as we know it. Then I look at Jerry Siegel's other super hero creations that he did with other artists for DC. Next, I review Jerry's post Superman comic book career, and his return to DC Comics in the 1960's and why. Finally, I review some developments in the continuing legal battle between the Siegel and Shuster hiers and DC over Superman's copyright, and a separate lawsuit over Superboy.
