Download Episode 358 Part I!

SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 42, July 1963, was published on May 9, 1963. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of 12¢. Mort Weisinger was the editor, and the cover was drawn by Kurt Schaffenberger. It featured the issue's third and final story, all three of which were also drawn by him.

- THE GIRL WHO DESTROYED ATLANTIS (9 pgs.), writer unknown according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics, while the Grand Comic Book Database credits Leo Dorfman.

- THE MONKEY'S PAW (7 pgs.), writer unknown according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics, while the Grand Comic Book Database credits Jerry Siegel. Since there is some disagreement about the writer credit, we won't count this towards his silver age production.

- THE ROMANCE OF SUPER BABY AND BABY LOIS (9 pgs.), writer unknown. This story was reprinted in SUPERMAN IN THE SIXTIES and LOIS LANE: A CELEBRATION OF 75 YEARS.

Also highlighted in this episode are the issue's ads and other features, including the LETTERS TO LOIS column.

  1. As always, thanks for your fun podcasts. I just want to make an observation about the language skills of the Silver Age DC characters. It's amazing how quickly these folks pick up languages. In "The Girl Who Destroyed Atlantis", Lois can read Atlantean because she's been to Atlantis before. In an earlier episode (357, Part 1), Jimmy Olsen can understand the ancient Viking language because he'd time-traveled to that time period. In the same issue (Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, #69), Jimmy can understand Kryptonese, and I think we've seen instances when Lois understands Kryptonese, as well. I studied French for three years in high school, as well as a year of Classical Greek, and two semesters of intensive German in college, but I don't think you could plop me down into any of those cultures and have me interact fluently with natives. I envy their skills.

    1. You did a lot better than I did in school. I never took a foreign language in high school and withdrew from beginning French in college. iF only we had been silver age comic book characters, then learning foreign languages would have been so much easier.
