I have to say that, although this may have been a sequel to World's Finest #154, early in the story, I was reminded of "The Colossal Kids" in #152, so I caught on (sort of. I didn't realize they, too, were sons of the guys I was thinking of.) to the true identities of the "Abominal Brats" even before the big reveal.
ReplyDeleteOn your question about the story in which Batman caught up with Joe Chill, who had murdered the Waynes, that was in Batman #47, cover-dated June-July, 1948, and probably reprinted various times, since it's a classic. Later, in Detective Comics #235, cover-dated September, 1956, Batman learns that Chill was hired by mobster Lew Moxon to murder the Waynes. That's a terrific story in which Batman wears a bat costume that his father had worn to a costume party the night he (Thomas Wayne) was kidnapped and forced to remove a bullet from Moxon.
You asked about the placement of your "My Pull List" segment. It's certainly your choice, but, selfishly, I prefer getting quickly into the Silver Age goodness of the issue at hand, so I like the "Pull List" at the end of the episode. I do enjoy hearing that segment, since it gives me a good idea about comics I don't read myself, so I'm glad you include it.
Thanks for reminding me of the story in World's Finest #154. I had forgotten about it. Also thanks for the information about the two Batman stories. I checked my bookshelf and confirmed that I read them in The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told. For the time being, I will continue to put the My Pull List segment at the end of the episode. I've heard a few podcasters who prefer to jump into the topic soon after the beginning of the episode and avoid long extended introductions. I guess it's time I took their advise.
DeleteIt's great that you mention the Direct Currents. This gives us a perspective as to what else was going on in the DC Universe at that time.
