After Julius Schwartz passed away in 2004, DC Comics did eight tribute issues recreating iconic issues of titles he edited during his long career. Current artists re-create those covers, with the original covers being reproduced inside. The stories were done by creative teams who either worked with Julie or were inspired by him.

E. Nelson Bridwell died on January 23, 1987, according to http://supermanhomepage.com . He was a prolific writer and editor at DC Comics, known for his encyclopedic knowledge of super hero trivia and continuity, and for editing many reprint editions of DC Comics. We feature three notable titles he created for DC Comics, even though they did not enjoy long runs. They were very original ideas that still deserve notice.

Phyllis Coates was born on January 15, 1927, and the Superman comic strip began publishing on January 6, 1939. I thought both subjects would make a great double feature for this episode. Phyllis Coates is most famous for portraying Lois Lane in the first season of the TV show The Adventures of Superman. The Superman comic strip ran from the 1940's until 1966.

It appeared in THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN issue 462, January 1990, and appeared on shelves on November 28, 1989. It was reprinted in the now out of print DC Comics trade paperback LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. If you would like to read this story before listening to this episode, you can search for it on line or in the back issue bins of your local comic book store.
