Future Bear's Mission Book,

The FUTURE BEAR'S MISSION BOOK PANEL was the third panel I attended at MegaCon 2015 on Friday, April 10, 2015. It took place in Room 205BC from 4:00 - 5:00 p. m. Prof. Rachel Simmons created Future Bear, and Prof. Julian Chambliss wrote the Future Bear's comic book story. Cassandra Hill created Future Bear's rocket pack, Alison Eitner wore the Future Bear costume, assisted by Meredith Connelly. Rachel and Julian are professors at Rollins College who discuss using Future Bear in an educational environment to teach students about  environmental awareness and climate change.

Yes, I got my picture taken with
Future Bear!
Originally I had planned to attend the SELF PUB COMICS panel which began ten minutes earlier, but I happened to meet Julian after the 3 BOYS PRODUCTIONS PANEL. We began to talk and I lost track of time. So instead of going to the SELF PUB COMICS panel after it started, I decided to attend this panel instead, and was glad I did. It was interesting to see how comic books can be used in education.

At the end of the episode I read an e-mail about the SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS PANEL!

Episode #319 Part II: MegaCon 2015: Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960 - 1990 Panel!

Panel Moderator Marc B. Lee!

Download Episode 319 Part II!

The first panel I attended, which began at 12:15 p. m. Friday afternoon, was the SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON panel, hosted by MegaCon staff member Marc B. Lee. He took the older members of the audience, like myself, on a trip down memory lane, and introduced the younger generations to the cartoons of yesteryear. He played the opening themes for many Saturday morning cartoons of the 1960's and 1970's from his laptop, which was not hooked up to the speakers in the panel room. Marc used a hand microphone, which he held next to his laptop speakers. The audio from these cartoon themes will not be as clear as the sound from the rest of the panel.

I was unable to find any ownership information on the classic Japanese Anime characters Kimba, Marine Boy or Speed Racer.

Episode #319 Part I: MegaCon 2015 Preview!

Download Episode 319 Part I!

MegaCon 2015 will occur from Friday, April 10 - Sunday April 12, 2015 in halls A4 - B4 of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. I have covered the convention for this podcast beginning in 2010, and first attended MegaCon in 2005 & 2006 as a gift for my son, whose birthday was at the end of February, near the time the convention occurred those years.

In this preview episode I share some general information about MegaCon as well as some helpful tips for anyone planning to attend MegaCon, or any other convention, for the first time. The rest of the episode is a review of the schedule of panels I plan on attending, and covering for this podcast. This episode begins with MY PULL LIST segment as I review the March 2015 comic books I ordered from Discount Comic Book Service.

Because of my work schedule during the week after MegaCon, convention episodes will begin being posted the weekend of April 18 & 19, 2015.

After the MegaCon coverage we will return to our regularly scheduled journey through the time barrier to explore the silver age adventures of Superman with:

- SUPERMAN COMIC BOOK COVER DATED DECEMBER 1963: ACTION COMICS 307!

- SUPERMAN FAMILY COMIC BOOK COVER DATED FEBRUARY 1961: PART I: WORLD'S FINEST COMICS 115 & PART II: SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 23!

- SUPERMAN COMIC BOOK COVER DATED JANUARY 1964 PART I: SUPERMAN 166, PART II: SUPERMAN ANNUAL 8 & PART III: ACTION COMICS 308!

Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen 50!

Download Episode 318 Part II!

SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN 50, January 1961, was published around November 22, 1960. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of a dime. The editor was Mort Weisinger, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye. It featured the issue's third and final story. All three stories have been reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. IV.

- THE LORD OF OLSEN CASTLE (9 pgs.), was written by Jerry Siegel, pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Sheldon Moldoff. This is the 59th Jerry Siegel Superman family story covered in this podcast,(the 119th he wrote up to the Superman stories we've covered in SUPERMAN and ACTION COMICS up to the November 1963 cover date), and the 160th Siegel story we've covered so far on this podcast. Previously, he wrote two stories for SUPERBOY 86, January 1961, published around November 22, 1960: THE SUPER COWARD drawn by Al Plastino and THE ARMY OF LIVING KRYPTONITE MEN, drawn by George Papp.

- THE WEIRDEST ASTEROID IN SPACE (8 pgs.), written by Otto Binder, pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Sheldon Moldoff.

- THE SUPER-LIFE OF JIMMY OLSEN (9 pgs.), writer unknown, drawn by Al Plastino.

Also highlighted in this episode are the issue's ads and other features, including the JIMMY OLSEN'S PEN PALS letter column.

Elsewhere in DC Comics, 27 titles carried the January or January/February 1961 cover date, according to Mike's Amazing World Of DC Comics. They were covered back in Episode 232 for the week of July 4, 2012.

Next Episode:  MEGACON 2015 PREVIEW!

After my MegaCon Episodes; SUPERMAN COMIC BOOK COVER DATED DECEMBER 1963: ACTION COMICS 307! (I have to correct myself from last episode when I included SUPERMAN 166 and SUPERMAN ANNUAL 8. Those carry the January 1964 cover date and will be covered in about a month.)

On the following week: SUPERMAN FAMILY COMIC BOOK COVER DATED FEBRUARY 1961 PART I: WORLD'S FINEST COMICS 115!

And the week after that: SUPERMAN FAMILY COMIC BOOK COVER DATED FEBRUARY 1961 PART II: SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 23!
