WORLD'S FINEST COMICS #83, July/August 1956, was published around May 31, 1956. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of a dime. The editor was Jack Schiff, and the cover was pencilled by Dick Sprang and inked by Stan Kaye. At the top of the cover was a banner advertising a contest with 5,000 prizes. This contest will be discussed later in the episode.

The 12 page Superman and Batman story was titled THE CASE OF THE MOTHER GOOSE MYSTERY. it was written by Bill Finger, pencilled by Dick Sprang and inked by Stan Kaye. It was reprinted in WORLD'S FINEST COMICS ARCHIVES vol. I and SHOWCASE PRESENTS: WORLD'S FINEST ARCHIVES vol. I. Both reprint editions credit Curt Swan as the penciller of the cover, but THE GRAND COMIC BOOK DATABASE at http://comics.org noted that the credit was incorrect, and penciller Dick Sprang confirmed pencilling this particular cover.

Green Arrow starred in the 6 page second story of the issue, THE ERROR CAR, drawn by George Papp.

After this story DC published a full page house ad for a slogan contest for their comic books. Contest forms would be published in the DC titles with a September 1956 cover date. Among the 5,000 prizes available to be won were: a Columbia bike, skates, games and dolls. This contest will be covered in future episodes of this podcast.

The final 6 page story of the issue starred Tomahawk in THE TRIBE WITHOUT A CHIEF, drawn by Bob Brown.

Elsewhere in DC Comics, 30 titles carried the July or July/August 1956 cover date.
